A Corner of Black Widow Spider King

By forcing myself to knit two repeats a day, I have finally turned the first corner of the BWSK. It took me three tries to get a corner I was happy with. By showing these incredible photographs, you all can be happy along with me!

If there is anything more boring than knitting edging, I don't want to know about it. 2.75 sides to go. Urgh.

Wow! The corner looks great! I've tried and failed several times to work with black yarn. You're really making me want to try again.

That is a lovely widow :D
Knitting edging yuck! maybe grafting at the end is even worse!

Nope, doesn't look like it's too interesting - but the results are spectacular!

I am so looking forward to seeing the finish product. (I imagine you are too.) I won't t even try black socks, so black lace, no way. Maybe if I were a spider too.

oooooh!

Two a day will get you through eventually! :)

Well, at least you can console yourself with the fact that it looks fabulous. :)

I'm with you on edging, though. I'm going to start doing the edging FIRST, like that pattern Alice did. At least that way you get done with the tedium at the beginning rather than the end!

Very nice. At two a day, when do you think it will be off the needles?? Border torture (like water torture, but dry...)

That looks wonderful! I know it's torture but maybe you can give yourself a reward every time you get a section done. I'm still knitting the edging on side # 3 of Boundary Waters and I want to slit my wrists everytime I force myself to knit a few repeats. Boooooring! Still, the shawl is well worth the effort. It's sublime!

Boring it may be, but it sure looks good. In fact, good is an understatement. :)

Well, it looks amazing!

Boring, but beautiful. Edging may be tedious, but it highlights the border detail so nicely...

As others have said, it may be boring to you, but it's beautiful!

I will admit that I would probably still be knitting on the borders of my Widow's Shawl without the 'push' that last summer's "Amazing Lace" gave me. I also did the 'x repeats and then I can work on something more interesting - even if it's a sock heel' mantra.

My Widow's Shawl is a very simple one compared to yours and was in jumper weight shetland. It is my 'everyday' shawl for warmth at the office. The details are here: http://threadsandstring.blogspot.com/2006/08/fo-widows-shawl.html

Dark yarns are AMAZING. They are such a pain to work with, hard on the eyes, but so dramatic when you pin them out. Well worth the hassle.

but it does look lovely and finishes it off....

Boring as knitting edging may be, it's totally worth the effort. I wonder if knitting inches and inches of stockinette stitch for sweaters could be more boring then lace edging? I'm thinking yes. What do you think?

I just can't believe you designed that all by yourself just by inspiration. makes me want to make my sweater work out even more. or even get back to lace.

There are no words to express how beautiful that is, it's breath taking!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of rewards....that's what you need.

Of course the big reward will be when it's finished -- it will be beyond gorgeous.

Wow, perhaps it's boring, but that's a truly beautiful piece of work! Lovely!

OMG Susan, when do you ever sleep? This is so awesome I must go find this pattern!

I see what you mean! I feel better about mine already. How long does it take you to do one repeat? It looks just like the edging on my civil war shawl. It was a bear to do. I, too, am working with black. I think my yarn is a thicker laceweight (4000 yards per lb), but being alpaca, it is very slick like silk.

My repeat take 15 minutes each, so 1 hr and 15 minutes is all it takes me to reach my goal for the day. If you can feel it, I am patting you on the back for your progress. This means you are 2 ahead of your goal for the day. Hooray!
